Nerja: A Gem in Spain’s Mediterranean Costa del Sol

By Nicholas James Pedler

Situated on Spain’s Eastern coast in the Costa del Sol region, the Mediterranean town of Nerja is a seaside resort that boasts temperate weather year-round, a beautiful view of the Almijara Mountains, over five miles of beaches, and plentiful restaurants, bars, and shops. The Mediterranean getaway is home to the Balcón de Europa, which offers a stunning vantage point from which to view the Costa de Sol’s rocky shore and pristine waters. The Balcón was originally constructed to protect the area from British pirates and privateers.

Although Nerja is a favorite among tourists, the town has maintained its local feeling and authentic flair. Instead of high-rise hotels, visitors can choose from a plethora of beautiful vacation homes for rent, as well as hotels constructed with traditional Spanish architecture. Nerja is just a 40-minute drive from the Málaga airport.
